Philadelphia Xarelto Injury Lawyers

Our Philadelphia Xarelto Injury Lawyers represent people who have sustained personal injuries from the dangerous side effects of Xarelto. Xarelto is a blood thinning drug (anticoagulant) manufactured by Bayer HealthCare AG and marketed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson). Physicians prescribe Xarelto to reduce the risk of blood clots and stroke.

Xarelto Side Effects

Patients who use Xarelto have experienced a number of dangerous side effect injuries, including:

  • internal bleeding that cannot be controlled
  • severe blood loss leading to serious injury or death
  • pulmonary embolisms
  • gastrointestinal hemorrhaging
  • rectal hemorrhaging
  • brain hemorrhaging
  • blood clots in patients prescribed Xarelto following knee and hip replacements (despite Xarelto’s intended use as a blood clot prevention drug)
  • death

Xarelto’s Uncontrollable Bleeding Effect

Xarelto is a particularly unsafe blood thinner, because Bayer designed, manufactured, and released Xarelto to the market without a reversal agent to stem uncontrollable bleeding. Xarelto is in stark contrast to other blood thinners that are easily reversible with a single dose of vitamin K or other agent.

Bayer was aware of the deadly effects of Xarelto from the large numbers of Xarelto injuries reported by users and from studies revealing Xarelto’s dangerous side effects. Jama (Journal of the American Medical Association) published a study in September 2014 that showed an increased risk of major bleeding during patients’ initial three months of Xarelto treatment. The November 2013 issue of Medscape published a study demonstrating that:

  • acutely ill patients treated with Xarelto were 3 times more likely to suffer dangerous bleeding than patients treated with other blood thinners, and
  • patients suffering from ACS (acute coronary syndrome) were 4 times more likely to suffer major bleeding from Xarelto than from other blood thinners

Xarelto lawsuits filed by Philadelphia Xarelto Lawyers allege that the drug maker:

  • defectively manufactured Xarelto without an agent to reverse uncontrollable bleeding
  • knew of the serious risks of uncontrollable bleeding and other dangerous side effects from Xarelto, and
  • failed to adequately warn physicians and consumers of the dangerous side effects of Xarelto
